week 50 2025

Ho ho ho! Did you get your holiday cards mailed yet? It's time! And if you run outta time, no worries. We have some great New Year's cards too.

new year's cards

Last week was another blur. I was coming off the very long days and evenings of One of a Kind, I usually take Monday off to recover from the show, but this year, we had three BIG Valentine's Day orders to get out on Monday. And they had to go out Monday, the PO had a cancel date of the following Monday. I felt like I was sleepwalking as I was pricing the cards with their barcodes and bundling them in bubble paper and nestling them into boxes. We finished all three orders and UPS picked them up at 2pm. I was so relieved to see Tony, our driver, walk through our door. Of course, it's UPS' busy season and there was one delay, I was holding my breath and refreshing the tracking daily. I'm happy to say, all three orders were safely delivered by Friday.

Wednesday I was shop girl. We got in a restock of some Japanese goods. I spent a good amount of the day entering everything in our POS, pricing and restocking the shelves. You all have been keeping up busy this holiday season. Thank you!

Speaking of holidays, it's about time for you all to start wrapping your presents. We still have amazing vintage gift wrap available. Did you know most of our giant rolls of gift wrap came from Marshall Field's? There was a Party Store on the West Side of Chicago that bought Marshall Field's dead stock gift wrap at the end of the season. When the owner's of that store passed, I happened upon their estate sale. It was glorious! I had originally gone to look at the letterpress print shop in the basement. Yeah... the store did custom invitations and had a print shop in the basement and party/stationery store on the first floor. The owners lived on the second and third floors. What a dream sale. At the time I didn't have my store but knew I couldn't pass up all the vintage stationery and gift wrap. I bought as much as I could afford my first visit. They had the sale again the next weekend and I came back and bought more, this time using my credit card. I decided to open an Etsy shop and sell some of the vintage goods. My vintage shop was called If Found, Please Return based off some vintage labels I got at that sale. I sold quite a bit of my vintage goods there. When I opened my storefront in 2019, I shut down the Etsy shop. Now you can see some of the items in person, at our brick and mortar. If want some gorgeous presents under your tree, or just a piece of Chicago retail history, we can help! Come shop our vintage holiday wrap! We also have some more modern wrap too. Along with wrap, we have some really cute gift tags and ribbon.

Stop by for all your gift wrap supplies. We also have plenty of ornaments, stocking stuffers and gifts available too. This week we're open Wednesday + Thursday 11-6, Friday 11-5, Saturday 10-5.
Random, randomness...
•I took Tuesday off and treated myself to a little pampering. I scheduled a Reflexology Combo A at TouYuanTang Spa. I didn't know exactly what the Combo A was but I knew there was foot reflexology involved and my feet needed it after standing at The Mart for four days straight. It was amazing. Combo A is 20 minutes of reflexology, 10 minutes of face, head and arm massage and 30 minutes of back and neck massage. I was jello after. I'll be going back and soon!
•Tuesday night, Tom and I treated our friends Manny and Myriam to a Wet Leg concert at the Aragon Ballroom. We ran into friends at Fat Cat during dinner and they had extra VIP tickets and invited us to join them. Such a fun surprise! Wet Leg rocked and we had a great night out with friends.
•Friday Tom and I went downtown fro a date night. We had dinner at Lux Bar then saw Andrew Bird at Fourth Presbyterian Church. It's an annual tradition for us. We both love Andrew Bird and have gotten tickets to his Gezelligheid concert every year. It's cozy and beautiful, a feast for the eyes and ears. Downtown Chicago during the holidays is truly magical. All the beautiful lights, the tourists and shoppers along Michigan Ave, the architecture, the energy is palpable.
•I listened to Freida McFadden's book The Intruder. I'm a fan of hers. This isn't my most favorite but it was still entertaining and worth a listen. It's a thriller with a some twists and turns that'll keep you guessing. I like her characters, they're always a little flawed and have complicated histories that play into her stories. This one had so many uncomfortable moments and characters you love to hate.
